The Queen of Country Music Comes to Jess’s Aid

Another celebrity has jumped into the “Defend Jessica Simpson” bandwagon! And this time, it is none other than the queen of country music herself, Dolly Parton. The popular country singer has come to the defense of fellow country music songstress, Jessica Simpson, in light of the latter’s “weight-gate scandal.”
Dolly, who has helped Jess in her debut country album, Do You Know, came to the defense of the bombarded singer, during her interview with Larry King on CNN.
“I say people always treat her bad. They always talk bad about her. I just recorded a song with her a few months ago. And I’ve never had - I’ve never been around a person any sweeter in my life. And she’s a great singer,” said the country music icon.
The singer, who has also gone through her share of mockery due to her weight came to Jess’s defense. The younger singer came under the public’s scrutiny when she appeared in a performance with a noticeably fuller and “curvier” figure, fueling off a media frenzy.
“And I’ve been fat and I’ve been skinny. And I’m not about to say something about somebody else’s weight because I know how hard it is when you gain, you know, five or six pounds, and certainly 10 or 12,” Dolly revealed.
“But I know that Jessica is a good girl. She’s beautiful to me. And I’m sure that she’s going to get some weight off just because people won’t leave her alone,” she continued on to say.
A few weeks later, Jessica came into the spotlight again. This time, after she fumbled through an opening act performance for Rascal Flatts during their tour, where the singer forgot lyrics to her song, stopped in the middle of a performance, then walked off the stage in tears.
Of that, Dolly said in relation to Jess’s stage antics, “I think every entertainer’s had nights when things go wrong. I mean you can’t remember everything all the time, and especially if you’re having hard times personally.”
