Pete Swaps Bass For Brush
For a time anyway. December 9 marked another milestone for Pete Wentz as he and Gym Class Heroes’ Travis McCoy, revealed their art portfolio, “Without You I’m Just Me” at the Gallery 1988 in West Hollywood. The gallery was open to the public from 6:00- 9:00 PM, and then a VIP reception followed from 9:00 – 11:00 PM for the artists’ friends and family.
After her debut public appearance during the Fall Out Boys gig on Monday, Pete’s radiant other half once again went out to show her support for her hubby, with sister Jessica Simpson (sans BF Tony Romo) in tow. Other celebs who made appearances were Nichole Richie and husband Joel Madden, along with Joel’s newly-single brother, Benji.
If you’re wondering what kind of art they were into, well, let’s just say that it was very diverse and quite unique. Prior to the exhibit, the pair worked on canvas, paper, and cardboard, with acrylics, spray paint, and adhesives, which they sometimes roughened with sandpaper or adorned with scrawls.
When asked about his art inspirations, Pete said, “I think Pharrell [from the Neptunes] does it really well… Most of the art I’ve been involved in is pop art and it does blur the line. That’s where you can be the most subversive.”
For those of you who fear that Pete will drop his bass for a paintbrush permanently, there’s no need to fear!
“People are mistaken when they say we’re all here on Earth to do one thing,” Pete said. “There are narratives you can’t fit within time signatures and melodies. I’m combining areas to tell a much larger story.”
This roughly translates that he has talent beyond music, and he doesn’t intend to give up on one to pursue the other. So go, Pete!
