Jessica: Many Things Are Completely Pointless

Jessica Simpson proves that she’s isn’t one to cower in the corner and hide. This girl showed some guts as she faces her first “controversial” issue of the year: her “weight gain”.

The pop-turned-country singer, with the support of most of Hollywood and her fans behind her back, has risen out of the controversy, stronger and even more confident than before. In an opening number at Lexington, Kentucky for her tour with country band, Rascall Flats, Jess told fans that she’s turned to her faith for the hard times.

“Because of my faith, I believe that I can conquer the world and all its opinions and ideas and all of its judgments,” the 28-year-old country singer revealed before launching into her tune, which was appropriate for her situation, “Pray Out Loud.”

“Please remember, no matter what you go through in life, somebody else might have it harder. So just appreciate,” she told the crowd.

She added: “I feel like in our world today we focus on so many things that are completely pointless.”

Remember the phrase that “there’s no such thing as bad publicity?”
According to USA Today’s Heat Index, which measures celebrities’ media exposure, Jessica is No. 1 on the Web site’s list for the first time ever as a result of her fuller figure. She beat Angelina Jolie, Vivienne Marcheline Pitt-Jolie, First Lady Michelle Obama and Sasha Obama.

Michael Levine, a media expert told Access Hollywood that this weight gain controversy is helping Jessica’s career.

“Some of the Web sites have been extremely snarky with her and I think there is some sympathy,” he said, while adding that, “Weight gain creates a story line for a celebrity and creates relevance for many, many Americans who battle weight.”
