Pete Wentz and FOB’s Swan Song?

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

Pete Wentz at the AXE Instinct Power of Leather launch party at Hard Rock Live! in New York City

For all the Fall Out Boy fans out there, the boys’ video, What a Catch, Donnie, is looking like it could be their swan song.

What is a swan song, you ask? Well, it is the last song before a group breaks up. Think Spice Girls and their swan song, Viva Forever (I still get sad when I think about that song).

Anyways, though Pete has already blasted rumors of FOB doing a fall out, some media and press people can’t seem to get it out of their heads that Catch is the band’s swan song video. Why? Simply because the song and its video have all the elements of being the swan song. Let’s take a look, shall we?

1. First, the song brings together famous members of the band’s extended Decaydance family – Gabe Saporta from Cobra Starship, Brendon Urie from Panic! at the Disco, Travis McCoy from Gym Class Heroes, to name just a few — singing memorable lines from past Fall Out Boy hit songs. The song itself, is nostalgic and melancholic at turns, quite unlike the wild and pop-sounding tunes the band is famous for. Not swan song-y enough?

2. The video shows singer, Patrick Stump alone at the sea, steering a craft into the sunset while fishing out band memorabilia out of the sea, like those FOB dolls in 2006 and the striped jacket he wore in their Dance, Dance video.

So, of course, when MTV News visited the band on the set of the music video, they had to ask Pete if FOB really were saying goodbye.

“I think this video gives us the chance for this record to come full circle, and this song represents that as well,” he said. “It’s got a reprise in it, and it contains lyrics to a bunch of other songs that were important to Fall Out Boy. So I think this video is a project of passion rather than, ‘Oh, we’ve got to get this thing out for this’ timing or something.”

“We just always wanted to make a video for [the song]. I think Patrick, specifically, really wanted to make a video for this one,” Pete continued. “People might have expectations for what the video is going to be, but I hope it will be self-explanatory. It’s metaphorical.”

Ashlee Simpson To Record Cover of Michael Jackson Songs?!

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

AXE Instinct Power Of Leather launch party at the Hard Rock Cafe, NYC

Oh no. Please don’t.

Not that I have anything against Ashlee Simpson, I actually like her, but please, let her not do a Michael Jackson cover album!

Rumor has it that papa and manager, Joe Simpson has taken a fancy to letting his younger daughter record an entire album of the King of Pop’s songs. Well, Ash has a good voice (not the best, sorry to say, but good) and she can dance (I think), but still, it’s the Michael Jackson we’re talking about here. I doubt that there’s any singer/ dancer out there who would be bold enough to do an MJ cover album this soon after his death, when adoring fans are still mourning him.

But luckily, we can breath a sigh of relief because Ash has laid the rumor to rest when she Tweeted: “Haha jeez. I loved M.J. enough 2 never to in my wildest dreams think of doing a tribute album. R.I.P. A legend. Enough with the goofy stories!” Whew!

Ashlee’s publicist, Rhett Usry makes it more formal by telling Entertainment Weekly that, “The [rumors] are completely not true…Honestly I don’t know where they’re from. This completely fabricated story is very disrespectful to Michael Jackson at a time like this, regardless of whose name you’re putting it to. Furthermore, she’s in the middle of shooting Melrose Place.”

Good. I don’t think I’m ready to here someone else sing Billy Jean or Thriller other than the original Michael Jackson anytime soon. And I don’t think anyone else is ready too. Maybe a few years from now? Try 10 – 20 years.

Jessica Simpson’s Fellow Country Singer Comes to her Defense

Sunday, June 21st, 2009

THE BRAIDY BUNCH ARE IN TOWN! A braided Jessica Simpson leaves a private gym in Hollywood after a two hour workout Three of the hottest ladies ion country music posted in a sizzling cover for Shape magazine. And somehow, in the course of the interview, Jessica Simpson’s name gets dragged in.

Shape asks the country-singing trio about their fellow country singer, Jessica Simpson’s infamous dance with the tabloids over her weight. Here’s what they said:

LeAnn says: I think it’s just sad for someone to be picked on like that for gaining a few pounds here or there. Women’s bodies come in all shapes and sizes. Look at the three of us: We have completely different bodies, which is a good thing. Wouldn’t it be bad if we all looked the same?

Martina says: I agree with LeAnn. Why focus on that? Jessica got singled out, which isn’t fair. What’s upsetting is that when you look through those tabloid magazines, all they write about is who wore what best or what’s wrong with their hair or makeup. It’s constant judging.

Julianne says: And often what’s written just isn’t true. One magazine recently reported that I drink only orange juice for my carbs. I want to clear that up right now. If I did that, it would kill me. I don’t want anyone to read that and believe it.

LeAnn says and advices: I’ve been in the tabloids recently too, and it’s been really hard for me [they reported she was romantically linked to her married Northern Lights co-star, Eddie Cibrian]. I’ve been in the public eye since I was 14, so I have a tough skin. It’s fine dragging me through the mud, but don’t drag my loved ones through it. They’re my family, and it hurts them. All I’ll say is, I know what’s in my heart and what’s true.

Julianne advices: The rumors are always flying around and can be so cruel. You have to stay true to yourself.

Eminem Puts Jessica in his Time Capsule

When rapper Eminem explained why he portrayed Jessica Simpson with a heavier figure and eating a huge burger, he said that he wanted to people to remember that at the time that the video came out, Jessica was fat.

“I mean, not really fat but she certainly got fat for … well, Jessica Simpson got fat for Jessica Simpson!” he explains.

I like how he said that! “She did not get fat, but she got fat for Jessica Simpson.” I mean, if it were some other celebrity, who was already curvy in the first place who got even curvier, then I don’t think that they would make the headline.

Eminem: “I felt conflicted doing the Jessica thing”

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

eminem

Oh! So, apparently famous rapper Eminem actually hesitates before poking fun at someone in one of his songs or videos, after all. Here we all thought that he was one of the “throw caution to the winds” kind of guy.

Well, apparently he does hesitate, if and only if, the celebrity he plans on spoofing is the girlfriend of his favorite quarterback! So that explains why he “struggled” poking fun at singer/actress Jessica Simpson in his latest demeaning video, We Made You. It seems that her boyfriend, Cowboys quarterback, Tony Romo, is one of Slim Shady’s favorite quarterbacks.

“Tony Romo is one of my favorite quarterbacks,” Eminem tells Detroit’s Metro Times. “So I felt kinda conflicted doing the Jessica thing.”

Oh, and here I thought that he was sensitive to Jess’s feelings. It seems that the singer’s boyfriend should receive that accolade.

The video showed a heavy Jessica Simpson look-alike, in her trademark Daisy Dukes, wolfing down a huge burger while cozying up to a football-uniformed Eminem. But, the rapper did not originally plan to have it that way. When he was still at the drawing board for his video, he had planned on having a slender Jess look-alike.

“When I say, ‘Jessica Simpson, sing the chorus,’ we were gonna have a chick who looked like Jessica Simpson come out and sing,’ he shares.

But, while shooting the video, headlines about the blonde singer’s fuller figure came out and inspired the rapper to make some last-minute changes.

“But then Jessica got fat,” he says. “I mean, not really fat but she certainly got fat for … well, Jessica Simpson got fat for Jessica Simpson!”

Oh, well. All I can say is, at least he hesitated.

Jessica Alba put a breast in my mouth but
Wowzers, I just made a mess of my trousers
And they wonder why I keep dressing like Elvis
Lord help us he’s back in his pink Alf shirt
Looking like someone shrinked his outfit
I think hes about to flip
Jessica rest assure, Supermans here to rescue ya
Can you blame me?
You’re my Amy, im your Blake
Matter fact make me a birthday cake
With a saw blade in it to make my jail break
Baby, I think you just met your soul mate
(Now break it down girl)

(CHORUS)

So baby, baby
Get down, down, down

Baby, get down, down down
Baby, get down, down down
Baby, get down, get down

Baby, get down, down down

Looks like Eminem is back, and with a vengeance.

Even though Marshall Mathers has been out of the scene for five years, it’s been painfully obvious that the rapper has been keeping tabs on celebrity pop culture. Mixed reviews has cropped up regarding his most recent video entitled, We Made You, where he took a swipe at popular celebrities like Jessica Simpson, Britney Spears, Lindsay LOhan, Kim Kardashian, Amy Winehouse, Jessica Alba, even Ellen De Generis and Sarah Palin.

Jess and Sony Hit Splistsville

Monday, April 13th, 2009

jess s.

Uh-oh.

Jessica Simpson and her country music label, Sony BMG Nashville, is hitting splitsville!

The 28-year old pop-turned-country singer is no longer a part of the Sony Music Nashville family, up to the point that her information, including her biography and page, are no longer available in the label’s website.

Though Song BMG Nashville has declined to comment about Jess’s status, a spokesperson for Jessica released a statement to CMT.com, saying, “Jessica is and has always been an Epic artist. She was on loan to Sony Nashville for her country album. She continues to be on Epic’s label.”

Oh. Is that so? But is the fact that Epic and Columbia, are both owned and operated by Sony Music Entertainment not relevant?

As of now, Jessica’s music career is in a standstill. But let’s review what happened in the previous year. The pop-turned-country tart released her first country album, Do You Know, on September 2008. Though it debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard’s country chart, it failed to bring in an impressive revenue when only less than 200,000 copies were sold.

Her debut country single, Come On Over, which was then Sony BMG’s Epci/Columbia imprint, opened at No. 18 on Billboards country songs for August 2008. She sang the same song at the CMA Music Festival in Nashville prior to that on June.

Her album also netted another single, Remember That, which peaked at No. 42 on December of last year.

Though the label has courteously refrained from commenting, rumors have been flying for months that Joe Galante, the head of Sony BMG Nashville was fed up with Jess and her forgetfulness of her own lyrics and crying on stage during her tour with Rascal Flatts.

Jess Forgets Lyrics Again

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

fuller-jess

I have always thought that it is a singer’s responsibility, to not only hit the notes, but also to memorize the lyrics.

But this doesn’t seem to be the case for pop-turned-country singer, Jessica Simpson. The Pray Out Loud singer performed her final show last weekend, donning her signature Daisy Dukes and high heels, where she performs as the opening act for country band, Rascal Flatts. Instead of giving a show-stopping performance (since that was her last night), Jess flubbed her lyrics again, not once, but twice!

The audience was willing to forgive her the first time she flubbed the words of her domestic-abuse-themed song, Remember That.

“Oops! I said whiskey too early! I messed up!” she told the audience. “I’m so embarrassed! But I’m starting over again because I really want you guys to hear the lyrics the right way.”

Okay. So, she made the band start all over again, and this time, thankfully, she finished the song with the lyrics intact.

But when she messed up the lyrics of another song, Still Don’t Stop Me, the audience became more unforgiving and booed her.

“I messed up again!” the songstress admitted, after blushing and running her fingers through her hair. “I do this all the time!”

Sheesh, Jess! I mean, didn’t you say that most of these songs were written, or co-written by you? So I’d assume that she knows the words, but sadly, this doesn’t seem to be. However, to be fair to the country singer, she doesn’t lip-synch (unlike younger sister and also singer, Ash), nor does she bring a lyrics sheet with her on stage. And other performers, who are older and definitely more experienced than her, make mistakes too. But still, it would be nice if she made an effort to actually memorize the lyrics, and not to make mistakes in her performance.

Jess Gets Candid in Denver

Friday, March 6th, 2009

jess-simp

Jessica Simpson is getting candid with her fans.

Clad in Daisy Dukes and white platform pumps, the 28-year old singer, opened the show in Pepsi Center, Denver last Saturday, with a Nancy Sinatra hit, These Boots are Made For Walking, with her classic, “Can I get a yee-haw?” which delighted her fans among the audience.

And as the show progressed, she got more candid with her fans and gave out personal confessions about how she hoped they would stick with her even through whatever happens in her career.

“I don’t know how many of you have followed my career. I hope you don’t just follow what people say about me,” she said, apparently referring to the hype over her weight gain.

“Hopefully, you actually follow whatever career I have,”
she added.

And hopefully, they will still follow her and support her two-straight-to-DVD movies.

She also shared with the crowd about her Colorado roots and how she has always admired John Elway, a retired Colorado quarterback. She shared that when she was a little girl, she and her father, Joe, had once waited for two hours to get the quarterback’s autograph, and they “still have it,” and that her beau, Tony Romo, has always been inspired by him.

“I lived here when I was in kindergarten. I lived in Littleton,” she said. The 28-year old singer, who grew up in Texas also added, “I have always admired John Elway.”

After her confessional, she then launched into a rendition of You’re My Sunday, which she said she wrote for Tony.

“As a family, we’ve always stayed together, prayed together,” Jess said before belting out her newest single, Pray Out Loud. “They taught me a lot of values. I’m sane because of them!”

Dolly Parton, the country music queen who came out to her defense, was also mentioned by the singer for being “such an inspiration. Dolly gave me the confidence to be who I want to be. I can be whatever I want to be.”

She dedicated “Remember That” to those who “have ever been in an abusive relationship” before leaving the stage. She didn’t identify the ex that hurt her but called him “a butthead.”

Simpson told audience members who have been abused to “find strength, value yourself and take heart.”

Jess and Rascal Flatts Rock Salt Lake

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

rascal-flatts

Finally, a ray of light for Jessica Simpson and her music career!

Jessica Simpson and the band that she’s gone on tour with, Rascal Flatts, gave a rousing performance in EnergySolutions Arena, Salt Lake City, Utah.

Since the start of the performance, Rascall Flatts gave their all in their revitalizing performance last Thursday night to the crowd of screaming fans inside the large arena.

As usual, Jess opened the show and set the mood with her 45-minute set. She sang songs from her debut country album, Do You Know.

Despite forgetting the words to her single, Come On Over, (although I could not begin to fathom how a singer can actually forget the lyrics to her own song) Jess seemed to be in high spirits and simply told the crowd, “I always do that right there. Sorry.”

After ending her set with her song, Do You Know, Jess paved the stage for the boys of Rascal Flatts, who came out with a loud explosion and some pyrotechnics for their grand entrance. The country band opened with Still Feels Good, and then moved on to a Tom Cochrane cover, Life is a Highway, which they sang for the Disney animated movie, Cars.

One of the unique parts of their performance was the stage, which extended into the arena in a circle that spanned much of the lower level. Lead vocalist Gary LeVox, bassist Jay DeMarcus and lead guitarist Joe Don Rooney used the stage to their advantage to flirt with fans and really sell their show.

Jessica at the CMA Nominations Announcement, part 1

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

cma-noms

Jessica Simpson has been welcomed into the scrutinizing fold that is the country music clique. Remember when I wrote that she’s going to take part of the CMA nominations announcement? Well, it has already been done, and might I say that Jess looked gorgeous during the announcement ceremony.

Some headlines actually state “Jessica and Co.” at the CMA’s. The “Co.” there is actually composed of very talented country music singers: LeAnn Rimes, Kellie Pickler, and Julianne Hough. The fact that Jess is the “newcomer” here makes the headlines a wee bit too exaggerated. But the fact that she’s the most talked-about in the recent weeks, make them a sure-read.

Anyway, back to the announcement ceremony, the four country singers (and all of them are also blondes, by the way), announced the nominees for 12 categories. Here is the partial list of nominees, for those of you who are interested:

Jessica’s Disastrous “Off-Night” Performance

Monday, February 9th, 2009

jessica-simpson-costa-mesa1

Uh-oh. Seems like Jessica Simpson has made quite a huge, huge blunder.

Fans of the country singer were shocked when she walked off in tears after a series of onstage blunders, at a concert in Michigan last Thursday night.

Jess was opening for Rascal Flatts (the country music band with whom she tours with), at the Van Andel Arena, Grand Rapids, Michigan. But the short (38 minutes) show was rife with humiliating errors, such as struggling with her in-ear audio monitors throughout the performance, losing her place in several songs, and forgetting the lyrics of Come on Over. In the end, she was forced to apologize to the audience and walk off the stage.

She also stopped during the intro of Pray Out Loud, asking her band to start over (she did the same thing last year), then mouthing “sorry” to the 8,000-strong audience, and saying, “My voice is weak tonight.”

After that, she introduced her closing song, Do You Know, where she admitted that she wished she could just “walk off the stage” and at the end of the gig, she thanked Rascall Flatts for “having her back”, then went off the stage in tears.

Jessica blamed her blunders to nerves and subsequently admitted she nearly quit her music career following the incident.

It was said that the incident left the fans feeling “cheated” out of a night expected to be full of good, solid performances and not the “patchy” ones that Jess gave out.

Cindi Berger, the publicist for Jessica Simpson, steps forward right after Jessica’s disastrous live performance, saying that the singer “had an off night.”

Cindy further adds, “She’s a perfectionist, and wanted to start some of the songs over. She always wants to give her best performance to her fans.”

Jessica Is Welcomed into the Embrace of Country Music

Friday, February 6th, 2009

Jessica Simpson

February truly is the month of looovvee… Because here’s another group that “lurvs” Jessica Simpson.

During the time that most of the country’s population cannot accept Jessica’s “weight gain,” the country music community seems to have accepted the former pop singer into their folds. The Academy of Country Music (ACM) has announced that Jessica Simpson will be one of the announcers of this year’s ACM Awards nominees, which will be held on February 11, at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. The actual awarding ceremony will be held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, and will be broadcasted via CBS on April 11.

Jess, along with other country music stars, Julianne Hough, Kelli Pickler, Carrie Underwood and LeAnn Rimes, will be going to Nashville for the announcement of nominees.

“It may look little, but this is actually a big thumbs-up from Nashville to Jessica,” an insider reveals to OK! magazine, while adding, “This little bit of acknowledgement says to her, ‘We’re taking you seriously; keep up the good work.’”

Awww! When Jess decided to take a more-or-less 180degrees career shift in 2007, many people were skeptical on whether she’ll be welcomed to the seemingly tight group, which makes up country music. In fact, it was predicted that she will have to go through some hard work just to prove herself.

At the time, a country music insider told OK!, “She is definitely going to have to work hard to prove herself in Nashville because people are judged on talent and merit, not where they eat in L.A. or shop or go to clubs.”

Jess is currently on tour as the opening act of one of country’s biggest and well-respected group, the Rascall Flatts.
