Jessica Simpson Overthrows Sarah Palin

Friday, July 10th, 2009

Jessica Simpson apparently sells more magazines that Sarah Palin.

With her ample cleavage and lots of skin, Jess managed to sell more copies of Vanity Fair, than the recently-resigned ex-governor of Alaska. What’s the proof, you ask? Well, the magazine recently crunched out a few numbers, provided by MediaMemo of Peter Kafka.

I think this just proves that Hollywood and pop culture would beat out politics anytime. But to be fair, I do think that in her own way, Sarah Palin has become a pop culture icon too. I mean, would she be mentioned in Eminem’s We Made You rap and video, if she weren’t? Anyway, another proof of that is that Michael Jackson’s death has more media coverage than her resignation as governor. And the reaction to the King of Pop’s untimely death is overwhelming, while reactions to her unprecedented move ranged from outrageous to “Is she crazy?!” Oh well.

Anyway, Jessica’s recent stint in Vanity Fair has sold lots of copies, while Miley Cyrus’s nearly-topless pictures got the magazine’s site 18 million visits in just two days. Jessica’s cover and page story gained the mag’s web site with 5.5 million page views over a range of two days. Ex-governor Palin’s announcement however, only attracted under two million page views since Friday, the date of her announcement, to today.

Jessica Simpson Vanity Fair

Don’t you just love Vanity Fair? For those of you who missed Jessica Simpson gracing the covers of magazines in a positive way, she is the cover of Vanity Fair’s June issue, which is out on the stands now!

This portion of her interview talks about the early years in her career, the media-hype around her, her multi-million business, and her strong faith in our Lord. Enjoy!

On her earlier years competing with Britney and Christina: “When I got the letter (from the Mickey Mouse Club that Brit and Christina got into) that said I didn’t make it, I just remember that I was giving up and I thought that I was going to die,” Jessica tells Vanity Fair about her failed audition. “It’s funny to look at my journals and see all the fears I had to face. [They] all remembered me. I didn’t feel competitive. I was more intimidated.”

On her first album: “My album was different. I released a ballad first. I wasn’t dancing and doing that whole thing. I wanted to set myself apart. But I was always third runner-up.”

On her multi-million entrepreneurial venture: “The Jessica Simpson Collection is a $400 million business. My mom and I are creative directors. We have hundreds of people working, but nothing gets by us. It’s adorable and it’s affordable. What’s amazing right now, during this recession, is that, somehow, the business keeps growing.”

On the media and their ferocious swipes at her and her weight: “It comes with what I do,” Jessica said, “and I know that every day the media’s going to challenge me, is going to want to bring me down. But I feel like I’m at such a place that I own myself, and it’s authentic. I own that authentic part of myself, and none of those words are harsh enough to make me believe them.”

On her strong faith in God: “I’m spiritual. I live off the faith that has been instilled in me, that has never left. I’ve never let a stumbling block actually make me fall,” Jessica told the magazine. “We all go through trials, but not one thing has ever made me question God. I have a great relationship with God. I can talk to Him, get mad at Him, frustrated with Him. But, ultimately, my faith is what defines me.”

On the cover of this Vanity Fair Issue, with the headline, “You call this Fat?” we see a cool, calm, collected, and chic Jess in a white, retro gown. A far cry from the pictures splashed all over the magazine covers earlier this year. So here’s the recap of some of the things that Jessica Simpson revealed in the interview regarding his past relationship with boy-band singer, Nick Lachey and her present relationship with Cowboys quarterback, Tony Romo:

On her early marriage with ex-husband, Nick Lachey: “It was what we all wanted,” she said. “Go to college, get married, and have babies. It was my way of thinking. At 16, every boyfriend I had I was going to marry.”

On their MTV show, Newlyweds
: “It made me understand what marriage is, what love is, what commitment is,” she tells the magazine. “In all honesty, I believe it did not affect our marriage. Because we enjoyed watching those episodes, and that will always be a time I cherish.”

On her relationship with Tony Romo an the issues that surround i
t: “We don’t let it affect our relationship,” she said. “If we did, we wouldn’t be together, because it happened at the very beginning. Dating the Cowboys quarterback comes with hype, the fans, the bloggers, but I’ve never dated a guy that was more simple. I’m always there for him after a game, and he knows he has me to come home to.”

Jessica Simpson’s love for self help books, talks about her interest in Theology

Thursday, December 4th, 2008

So she’s often perceived to be one of those Hollywood ‘dumb blondes’ by her critics, but Jessica Simpson proves she is never on that caliber and shares how she loves to read books and plans to head to college.

Yup, in an interview with Marie Claire in its January 2009 issue, the new aunt shares about her fancy over self-help book.

“I am the first person to go to Barnes & Noble and buy the new self-help book. I like to fill out the surveys, then I get my friends’ opinions on how I answered to see if I was being honest with myself or not,” tells Jessica in the issue featuring the things that people do not know about her.

But aside from self-help materials, Jessica also revealed her interest in going back to school, saying, “I’ve been contemplating taking a college course in religion. I love religion. I remember whenever the book The Da Vinci Code came out, the Discovery Channel did this three-night piece on it that I TiVoed and then watched eight times.”

Now that sure is interesting!

Be sure to get that issue in your newsstands soon.

It’s A-S-H-L-E-E OK!, ok?!

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

Well browsing over the internet for some Ashlee and Jessica Simpson news, I landed over this article from JustJared.com which is about OK! Magazine’s error in spelling Ashlee Simpson’s name – on its cover!

Instead of “Ashlee,” the weekly magazine spelled it as “Ashley”.

So what can OK! say about this mistake?

A representative for the mag tells Page Six, “It is highly embarrassing and, sadly, someone will probably be fired.” Uh-oh…

Now it sure is sad that somebody has to get fired for just misspelling a star’s name. On second thought, this really isn’t a “just” matter; errors like this should really be taken seriously. I mean, in a journalistic sense, the magazine will lose its sense of ‘accuracy’ with this.

But this kind of mistake could’ve really been prevented; you know, if the writer misspelled Ashlee’s name, the editor and the proofreader could sure have corrected it.

Bronx Mowgli photos worth millions

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

Well this isn’t really news; with people’s fetish over Hollywood babies, I would not doubt if Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz’ firstborn’s first photos will be worth millions.

But for ‘argument’ sake, how much do you think Bronx Mowgli’s first magazine pics will be?

Well Monsters and Critics.com reports that Ashlee and Pete could possibly get a whooping $2million for their baby’s precious photos.

“I see Ashlee and Pete coming in at the low seven figures mark. Two million seems like a good, solid figure for Ashlee and Pete. It’s a two-celeb couple, so that’s a boost for them,” publicist Howard Bragman stated.

Then again we should keep in mind that the prices being set for Hollywood babies is going up and down depending on the parent’s status, and of course, popularity.

And so Bragman added, “Keep in mind, last year, Ashlee was the girl who sang along to the tape recorder. It was a PR nightmare. Now, she’s a newlywed and a new mom, so she’s a lot more relatable.” Bragman also advices that the couple should really learn from Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt who’ve millions from their children’s baby photos.

“Nobody does this better than Angelina. She and Brad Pitt have been very careful to make it clear that the money they’ve been getting has been part of their charity outreach work. The big bucks are a nice perk, but for them, the publicity is priceless,” he adds.

Now that is one good tip, huh?! ‘Guess we’ll just have to wait for now which big-time magazine publication will feature Ashlee and Pete’s precious baby on their front page.
