Jessica Simpson Sings for Charity
Monday, June 8th, 2009
Scarlett Johansson is not the only celebrity who is into charity. On Sunday afternoon, singer/actress Jessica Simpson also showed that she wants to take an active role in charity too.
Jessica performed on that afternoon, but the audience wasn’t her usual crowd of screaming teenagers and awed males. Instead, she took the stage and performed four songs for 2000 pediatric cancer survivors, for the 18th annual Celebrate Life With Hope charity event.
“To be able to give back is my sole purpose in life,” Simpson says about why she decided to get involved with the event, which benefits the Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Diseases at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. The day’s events were part of National Cancer Survivor’s Day and are the fundraising event for the organization in the Western United States.
Afterwards, she hung around with the kids, signing T-shirts and just playing with them. Together with event planner Mindy Weiss, who incidentally planned both Jess’s wedding to Nick Lachey and also Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz’s wedding, the singer made sure guests had a great time.
“She was so nice and so warm. All the kids were getting a day out and the little ones were looking up at her, it was just really touching,” says a guest to the evemt.
“She kept telling them they were her heroes,” the guest added.
“At the end, she had a little meet and greet up on the stage,” the guest continued. “The kids were just so excited to see her and give her a hug and she was so sweet with them. She was signing T-shirts and the hospital gave her a plaque. She was just really happy to be there.”

Jessica Simpson is doing her best Angelina Jolie by confessing that she wants babies – she just doesn’t want to make one herself, yet.
