Jess is filming the movie Major Movie Star, which is set to come out in 2008. The movie follows what producers call a “fluffy, bubble gum movie star” (played by Jessica Simpson) who suddenly finds herself broke and humiliated in the public eye. After surviving a car accident (sound familiar, Lindsay Lohan?), she wanders from the wreckage and witlessly enlists in the U.S. Army hoping in vain that it will change her life.

I can think of a few celebrities who should maybe take a note or two from that plot line…

Jessica Simpson’s dad Joe talks about the many “interesting” roles Jessica has been offered over the years:

She’s always been herself on camera, but Jessica Simpson isn’t ready to show all of herself on camera.

“The last script that came to us was for Jessica to be a porn star,” Jessica’s father and manager, Joe Simpson, told PEOPLE at Thursday’s ABC Television Critics Association party in Beverly Hills.

“We were promised we would win an Oscar with that,” says Simpson, 49. “I was like, ‘Eh, we’ll just buy a [statue of a] little man and keep our clothes on.’ ”

Since she shot to fame in 2003 with ex-husband Nick Lachey on MTV’s Newlyweds Jessica Simpson, 27, has been receiving quirky TV-show proposals “every day,” according to her father.

“We’re pitched those a lot,” he says. “There are a lot of cool ones, and a lot of really strange ones.”

Currently, Papa Simpson is promoting ABC’s fall series The Women’s Murder Club, which he is producing with Rush Hour director Brett Ratner. No plans are underway for Jessica or her younger sister Ashlee Simpson, 22, to appear on the show.

“They’re very busy, and they’re happy,” Joe Simpson says of his daughters. “Jessica has three more movies to shoot; she has a new record coming in September. If the right role came up, of course, we’d never turn that down.”

Ashlee recently went shopping at a mall with a friend, where paparazzi caught up with her and a friend. She’s seen here riding an escalator, which really isn’t all that interesting, but check out the way she’s pretending she doesn’t see them. The funny thing is that she OBVIOUSLY wanted the attention, because why else would she bother going to a mall full of people when she can be doing some power shopping on Rodeo Drive? That’s what I want to know.

In other news, I totally love her pink shoes.

Jessica Simpson is a big spender, she recently admitted to Harper’s Bazaar — big surprise there. But the singer/actress also revealed that while sister Ashlee “goes to a thrift store and can buy something for 20 bucks … I have to go buy a black button-down at Barneys. For $900. Because it’s a collector’s item,” she said in the magazine’s August issue, which features Jessica on the cover. When asked which career she would pick if she had to choose between music and movies, she replied, “In my music career, there have been moments of failure, and with acting I haven’t had that yet. But music is opening up my heart and every emotion inside of me.”

Nick Lachey has been very busy of late. The hunky singer has been in damage control mode since photos of Vanessa Minnillo and him romping around and streaking outside of a Mexican villa were published. Many fans of his former wife Jessica Simpson and Nick as a couple are hoping that may drive him back to Simpson.

A new report claims that Jess feels the same way. OK! Magazine reports that it has been a year since Jessica Simpson’s divorce to Nick Lachey became final. Now, the pop princess is telling friends that it was the biggest mistake of her life.

She may have a killer body in our eyes, but Jessica Simpson admits she suffers from cellulite and “fat rolls,” and she’s hoping her range of beachwear will help women shed their body inhibitions and just have a good time.

Simpson debuted her swimwear collection during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Miami, Florida this last Saturday. She had everything from skimpy sexy two-pieces to modest yet trendy one-piece suits.

She tells MTV.com, “There’s always fun in a bathing suit. And you know that when people are buying a bathing suit, they’re buying it because they want to go do something to enjoy themselves, and that’s kind of where I’m at in my life.”

She continued, “(I’m) not afraid to celebrate a woman’s body. I do want to inspire people to fall in love with their body and be confident in who they are. I mean, I’ll show you that I have fat rolls. I have cellulite here and there, but I just want people to know that I’m a real person.”

I guess someone had their wires crossed because Ashlee Simpson denies the pregnancy and engagement rumors that have been buzzing around the internet. Too bad, I bet she’d look adorable with a baby bump!

Ashlee Simpson has quashed rumours she is engaged to Fall Out Boy star Pete Wentz or pregnant with his baby.

The Hollyscoop girls cite a source that says, “Ashlee wasn’t expecting it at all, it was a total surprise,” a blab said. “Pete whipped out a big engagement ring, dropped down on one knee, and asked Ashlee to be his bride. Ashlee says it was romantic, sexy - and that she said yes right away.”

The pair began dating earlier this year (07), with gossip websites in the U.S. alleging Wentz had proposed to the singer before his band’s performance at the Live Earth event earlier this month (07Jul07).

Wesbite Popcrunch claimed the engagement was kept a secret because of the failure of sister Jessica’s marriage to Nick Lachey, which ended in divorce in 2006.

But a spokesperson for Simpson tells UsMagazine.com Wentz and Simpson’s engagement rumours are “absolutely not true”.

My Miami party spies tell me the vixen—surrounded by bodyguards—refused to answer any questions without her mother, Tina, present. (Isn’t that the polar opposite of Britney Spears?!) With sis Ashlee a no-show, Jess controlled the spotlight, looking amazing and making guys jealous by focusing all her flirtations on mane man Ken Paves.

Yesterday we reported that Ashlee Simpson may be engaged to Pete Wentz. But now it looks like she could be more than just engaged…

The National Ledger has reported that Ashlee may be carrying Pete Wentz’ spawn - the rumors began when Ashlee was seen continually rubbing her belly. The report also notes that at a family wedding on 7-7-07 (they skipped the Paris wedding of Eva and Tony to stay at home with the family) sparked rumors that she might in fact be pregnant. “Ashlee may have helped start the rumors herself…She was at a family wedding and was wandering around rubbing her belly. And she refused to drink anything.”

Ok, poor Ashlee Simpson has rumors flying everywhere at the moment about her. Here’s another one. She might be engaged to Pete Wentz!

Nothing’s been confirmed, so hold off on having your head explode for now, but sources tell Pop Crunch that Wentz proposed to Simpson backstage at Live Earth before he performed with his Fall Out Boy bandmates. “Ashlee wasn’t expecting it at all; it was a total surprise,” says the source. “Pete whipped out a big engagement ring, dropped down on one knee and asked Ashlee to be his bride. Ashlee says it was romantic, sexy - and that she said ‘yes’ right away.”

“Ashlee and Pete are desperate to keep the engagement quiet for as long as they can so they can make wedding plans in peace,” says a pal of Ashlee’s. “All she wants is a simple ceremony with her family, his family and a handful of people.”

Jessica Simpson just released her new swimwear line, which she helped design. At her fashion show, models paraded the catwalk wearing Jessica’s designs, while Jessica watched them closely. She seemed absolutely delighted - and she should. Some of these swimsuits are actually cute - I wasn’t sure what to expect!

Jessica Simpson is keeping it real — for now. “I’ve had none,” she says, when asked about plastic surgery.

“But maybe after having kids, if my boobs dropped down to my bellybutton, I would get them lifted,” Simpson tells fashion designer pal Michael Kors, who writes about her in the August issue of Harper’s Bazaar, on newsstands July 24. She adds, “But you know, my boobs are real.”

It turns out that Jessica Simpson’s new film, “Blonde Ambition” has had its release date pushed back twice because the movie is so bad.

A source told that, “Jessica was not very focused on-set and flubbed her lines often. She always had her dog around, was on the phone with [then-] boyfriend John Mayer or was sitting in a warmed-up SUV.”

The film is now set to come out the last week of August.

We just learned that Ashlee’s short vacation last week over the Fourth of July holiday was spent with boyfriend Pete Wentz in Cabo San Lucas. Let’s hope the weekend refreshed her - because she has a ton of work to do on her smokin’ hot new album!
